Onto the sand castle that I’m building
from the stars I’ve been collecting,
my faint prayer
spills and drips down,
as the ocean waves lying in waiting
sweep and trip you up.

a world of darkness.
a world of silence.

Although my disappearing prayer
is being stirred up by the wind,
I will not let that fire go out.
No matter how many times I rebuild the sand castle
with my frosting hands tangled up in busyness,
the ocean waves lying in waiting
just keep sweeping it away…
